This 15 month masters course has been designed for students who are looking to develop their academic and practical business skills and gain a solid grounding in key business concepts, in addition to gaining advanced-level marketing expertise.

This extremely popular and professional course considers marketing from the perspective of the entrepreneurial company as well as the multi-national corporation. The Masters provides an integrated study of the theory and practice of effective and successful strategic marketing management. Through this specialised course we prepare you for interesting and varied careers as marketing executives and managers.

The course has a clear focus on experiential learning where practical application of theory allows students to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary marketing issues by developing skills in strategic analysis, problem-solving and decision making.

A unique feature of the course is the residential field trip, where students meet marketing practitioners from large multi nationals through to not-for-profit organisations and small entrepreneurs. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in particular specialised areas of marketing through optional modules and dissertation selection, whilst also studying the core components of marketing strategy and event marketing.

The course attracts students from a variety of academic disciplines and cultural backgrounds and as a result the richness of classroom discussions is significantly enhanced as students approach contemporary marketing issues from a range of different perspectives and viewpoints.

Full-time students usually attend three days a week.

Programme Structure

Modules
  • Practitioner Perspectives (residential workshop) – Our workshop will provide you with a practical and applied perspective of marketing as a discipline. The module has an experiential focus and will expose you to current marketing thinking and strategy implemented by practitioners and organisations alike.
    Plus three from the following:
  • Creative Communication Strategy – We aim to promote creative advertising practices to enhance brand communication and you will operate in creative teams on projects for a range of business and consumer brands.
  • Brand Management – You will learn about brand equity and strategic brand management, as well as the concepts and techniques to improve long-term profitability of brand strategies.
  • Sports Marketing – Our sport marketing focus will assist you with an understanding of the nature of sport marketing.
  • Arts Marketing - Arts Marketing offers practitioners and students of arts and business management, ideas and strategies they need to market effectively to art audiences today. These include performing arts, museums, theatre, digital art, dance, music and literature.
  • Social Marketing – Our aim is to introduce and explain the meaning and nature of social marketing concepts, theory and practice. The module provides students with a good knowledge of social marketing strategy.
  • Marketing Research Processes – You will learn each step of the marketing research processes, to evaluate and interpret market intelligence reports and prepare market research proposal.
  • Retail Marketing - This element of the course aims to develop students’ in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of retail marketing and address the changes taking place in the market today.
  • Entrepreneurship - You will be challenged to think and act entrepreneurially so you are in a position to start your own business or able to bring an entrepreneurial approach to existing organisations.

Qualifications

  • A third class UK Honours degree, or equivalent in any subject area
  • Exceptionally, applicants without a first degree might be considered based on professional or other qualifications approved for this purpose.

UK/EU and international students are eligible to apply for this course.

Academic credit for previous study or experience

If you have relevant qualifications or work experience, academic credit may be awarded towards your Middlesex University programme of study.

International entry requirements

We accept the equivalent of the above qualifications from a recognised overseas qualification.

You will not need a visa to study in the UK if you are a citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. If you are a national of any other country you may need a visa to study in the UK.
