Edge Hill University

History

Edge Hill College opened in Liverpool in 1885 as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women.

From its origins as a specialist institution with 41 female trainee teachers, Edge Hill now has almost 10,000 full-time students, another 3,000 part-time students on a wide range of undergraduate programmes, and almost 5,000 full- and part-time postgraduate students.

Education

Edge Hill University has achieved Gold, the highest rating in the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), for delivering ‘consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students’.

‘The quality of support and engagement infrastructure for students’ has also received international acclaim through a Global Teaching Excellence Spotlight Award.

Career

Enhancing student employability is central to the University strategy. We recognise that a life-long capacity to learn and adapt is key to success for individuals, employers and society as a whole.

The majority of our programmes lead to professional qualification, accreditation or endorsement in addition to an academic award.

Placements, work experience and study abroad are widely available in all Faculties, and our excellent links with employers mean that students have many opportunities to enhance their employability while they study.
