The rapid digitalization of media has changed the professional role of designers during the last twenty years, making it more challenging and more varied. At the BTK, modern design is combined with the traditional aspects of applied art and the innovative possibilities of new media. The BTK offers interdisciplinary courses of study, which enable students to explore the interface of both analogue and digital means of visual expression, and in so doing, help them to influence and determine the future of design.
Modern designers work within a variety of disciplines and in international teams. Our students learn to think creatively, analytically and scientifically. In the overlapping fields of art, design and technology, students are encouraged to develop their design expertise individually, multi-disciplinarily and practically. Our graduates begin their professional careers with the ability to communicate as designers combined with a desire to experiment creatively.
Our Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree courses - Communication Design and Photography - are completed in seven semesters. The Bachelor of Arts degrees provide qualifications for a professional career in the future-orientated media economy.
The BTK also offers the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree course in Design / Media Spaces, which is completed in three semesters. The Master of Arts degree course provides a qualification for an artistic or design-based professional career, as a freelance or in a leading role in a company.
The BTK University of Applied Sciences is officially recognised by the Berlin Senate (the Government of the Federal State of Berlin) since 2006 and the German Council of Science and Humanities institutionally accredited the BTK in 2009. Furthermore, the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZevA) has evaluated and accredited all the current degree courses offered by the BTK University of Applied Sciences.
