The University takes its name from the 14th Century farmhouse "Turris Virgatae" that was owned by the Roman noble family of Annibaldi, whose remains lie beneath Villa Gentile on campus. In 1982, in a South-East district of the city of Rome, the University was founded by a group of brilliant professors and young fellow researchers, and doctor Enrico Garaci became the first rector.
