The coolest thing about it is that all the modules of the School are developed according to the European requirements and can be recognized as a period abroad. Upon successful completion of the course students receive an SPbPU certificate with courses, ECTS credits and grades specification.

In 2017, the number of international participants at the  International Polytechnic Summer School was really impressive: about 500 students came from more than 50 countries. This made the School one of the biggest in Russia. As Vice-rector for International Relations at SPbPU, D.G. Arseniev notes that today’s universities should be open to international cooperation.

What you’ll study at International Polytechnic Summer School

In 2018, students may choose from 26 educational modules in 9 fields of study:

Space Technologies: how can we reach the next frontier?

 In 2017, the School's innovation was the program called Space Technologies. 26 students from Singapore, China, Mexico, South Korea, Greece, Bulgaria and Russia took part in their space course and listened to the lectures of high-level international and Russian specialists.

During the summer course students learned about educational-scientific small satellites, the basics of International space law and technical basics of telecommunication satellite systems design, experiments in space and CubeSats— a type of mini and midget satellites for space research, and many other things.

Also, there were exciting trips to the radio astronomical observatory 'Svetloe' and to the Pulkovo observatory. 

In 2018, you also have the opportunity to join students from all over the world during the Space Technologies course. The program aims to provide advanced techniques of space engineering and to help students understand the core physics principles related to space exploration. Space industry problems are also considered during the program in addition to technology topics.

The theoretical courses cover astrophysics, space technology and physics. Students will train their practical skills during a hackathon (a creative coding marathon) and an interactive business simulation workshop. The speakers are industry experts and experienced scientists from the field of space technology.

International Polytechnic Summer School 2018 offers three more new innovative educational modules:

Smart Cities: how to produce and design items the smart way

 The Smart Cities course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to implementing product ideas through instruments of digital fabrication, project management and development, fabrication-oriented design and operating CNC machines.

During the program you will work in groups on creating prototypes and functional models of urban-themed projects under the guidance of experienced moderators. The course includes using different types of tools for digital fabrication from computer-aided design programs to CNC machines such as laser cutter, PCB milling machine, 3D-printer etc.

  • Classes: Aug 13 – 24, 2018
  • Departure: Aug 25 – 26, 2018

Duration: 2 weeks

The Oil & Gas course: an insight into the secrets of oil extraction and processing

The Oil & Gas course provides students with knowledge about oil and gas trends and petroleum industry. As a participant you will learn all the subtleties of processes and technologies of viscous oil extraction, oil preparation and gas recovery under the supervision of leading Russian and international professors and experts. 

International Polytechnic Summer School

You will gain an appreciation of industry dynamics and the key issues affecting its development and future. This course will provide a thorough foundation for understanding the changing Oil & Gas industry dynamics.

  • Duration: 2 or 3 weeks of studies

The Molecular Gastronomy course: how can we make the best food?

The Molecular Gastronomy course is specifically designed for those who are willing to understand how fragrant breakfast buns appear out of flour and water or raw potatoes are transformed into crunchy chips at the molecular level. You will learn whether the focused control of these complex physical and chemical processes is possible or if cooking is the high art of avant-garde gastronomy.

During the course you will engage in interactive lectures and training cooking classes with tasting sessions. These classes are designed to provide students with new skills for cooking popular dishes of traditional and modern Russian cuisine.
