Among the touristic sites there are the African Museum of Lyon, the Gallo-Roman Museum and Museum of Resistance and Deportation, along with the New Opera House and Institut Lumière, which is the former home of the Lumière brothers. The Golden Head Park, Parc de Gerland, Parc de Miribel-Jonaje and Parc de Lacroix-Laval are some of the places where locals, tourists and international students spend their free time.

Nightlife is active and it usually means outdoor music, pubs and bars. Lyon has some symbolic events such as the Festival of Lights, the Lyon film Festival and Biennial of Dance.
