Overview

The Leadership, Management Strategy and Business Ethics course from Aarhus University is divided into modules e.g. Is there some competition between ethical behaviour and personal business success? and How can we, as future executive managers, integrate ethical norms and values into strategic management and daily business life?

Knowledge:

  • The students will develop a general knowledge and understanding of the founding characteristics of leadership theories.
  • The students will gain an in-depth and domain-specific understanding of the main concepts of ethical theories, based on the central philosophical concepts in Europe.
  • The students learn an in-depth knowledge on scientific explanations of the dark side of leadership.
  • By this work they learn the underlying assumptions of their own leadership style.
  • They develop an ability to reflect on the limitations and implications of the different theories of leadership and business ethics.

Programme Structure

The course is divided into the following modules:

  • Reflecting: Macro, Meso and Micro level of business ethics
  • Ethics on a global level: What are the responsibilities of global players and NGOs?
  • Integration of ethics into a company (CSR, Corporate citizenship etc.)
  • Relevance of ethics on the personal level
  • Connection between leadership, management and ethics
  • What do we mean by the term “leadership ethics”?
  • What is your leadership style?
  • Is there some competition between ethical behaviour and personal business success? If there is, what kind of competition is this?
  • How can a future manager develop his own style of ethically oriented leadership and influence the company in a positive way?
  • How can we, as future executive managers, integrate ethical norms and values into strategic management and daily business life? And (why) should we do this at all?
