Overview
Health Promotion from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine provides you with an in-depth perspective on the practical application of some of the more recent developments and health promotion skills in a low income country setting.
There will be emphasis on developing a critical understanding of the risk factors and strategies for the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Students at Health Promotion from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine will:
- gain an in-depth perspective on the application of health promotion strategy and policy to reduce the impact of non-communicable diseases in a low-income setting.
- gain knowledge and skills to take a leadership role in the development of partnerships, to improve and promote health.
Programme Structure
Courses include:
- the historical development of health promotion;
- the prerequisites for health as a resource for living;
- the concept of ‘healthy public policy’ based on the wider determinants of health;
- the evolution of health promotion theory and practice, from early behaviour change to social marketing and nudge theory;
- the importance of independence and advocacy;
- the prioritisation of need and tensions linked to resource allocation;
- concepts of risk and risk communication; and
- monitoring and evaluation of health promotion.

General requirements
- Anyone who works in the fields of international public health would find this course extremely useful.
- The course is taught in English. Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of at least 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all learning components, or a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 88 for the Internet-based Test (iBT), with minimum scores of 21 for Listening and Writing, 22 for Reading and 23 for Speaking. Tests should be within their validity period of 2 years.
