Overview
The Career Perspectives course at the Wageningen University and Research supports PhD candidates in a practical way with the necessary tools to apply for a job:
- making a distinctive CV
- writing a convincing cover letter
- presenting yourself at your best in a job interview
- using networking strategies effectively
A career assessment (personality- and competence test) is an important part of this course and will be taken prior to the start of the course. The test results give you clear directions on who you are, what you are capable of and what is your value to the job market.
In general you can expect the following results:
- A practical in depth preparation of all aspects in the job application process
- Getting tools to present yourself effectively to an employer
- Useful feedback on your presentation in your CV, cover letter and interview
- Formulating goals for yourself to take your next career step
Programme Structure
- Day 1: The first day we will focus on personal assets and accomplishments. All the information gathered is important to make a distinctive CV.
- Day 2: The second day we will challenge you to think creatively about career possibilities. We will analyse vacancies to discover how to interpret job requirements.
- Day 3: The third day will be spent on corporate culture by taking a closer look at teamwork.
- Day 4: The fourth day starts with the simulated job interviews with a recruiter (half of the group)
- Day 5: The last day we also start with simulated job interviews with a recruiter (other half of the group)In the afternoon we will answer any questions you might still have, work on a plan of action and evaluate the course.
