Overview
Massage Therapy Students at Algonquin College develop specialized knowledge, skills and judgment in conducting a systematic client assessment, formulating a comprehensive and clinical impression, developing a specific treatment plan, performing safe, competent, and comprehensive massage therapy and evaluating outcomes.
Learning outcomes
Major emphasis is placed on the development of effective interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking, empathic responses and decision making. Students learn how to meet legal and ethical obligations according to legislative and profession-specific guidelines. Anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, massage theory, communication, entrepreneurial and professional skills are also emphasized. The program`s foundation is based on the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics identified by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). Graduates sit the provincial certification examinations set by the CMTO.

General requirements
- English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.
- Biology, Grade 11 or 12 with a grade 65% or higher; OR
- Chemistry, Grade 11 or 12 with a grade of 65% or higher; OR
- Science, Grade 11 or 12 with a grade of 65% or higher; OR
- Introductory Kinesiology, Grade 11 or 12 (PSK4U or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.
- International applicants who meet the program eligibility requirements are required to complete preparatory courses (4-months in duration): Introduction to Canadian Health Studies (ICHS). Students who successfully complete the introduction will then proceed to their original health program of choice. The ICHS requires applicants to submit an academic IELTS score.
