Overview
Key facts:
- In this Developing Social Housing Projects course offered by the Erasmus University Rotterdam we take a holistic view of social housing projects. By introducing the different elements required for developing a social housing project you will learn how to achieve more sustainable projects that fulfil the needs of all stakeholders.
- One of the characteristics of developing countries is fast growing cities and the lack of affordable and adequate housing. Social housing policies try to address the housing problem but far too often their implementation does not reach people in real need. Both better policies and their adequate translation into programmes and projects are necessary to improve the overall living conditions of people in cities.
- The development phase, where social housing policies translate into action, is crucial in ensuring that social housing reaches targeted households and social goals. By the end of the course you will be able to successfully develop a social housing programme or project proposal which fulfils social housing goals. The proposal will include elements of design and housing plans, financial instruments, management structures, social programmes and the institutional set-up.
Programme Structure
- Developing Social Housing Projects (DSHP) uses a variation of training methods, such as lectures, case studies, expert’s seminars, field visits and group exercises.
- The knowledge and experience of social housing in the Netherlands is used throughout the course to introduce complex aspects and actors of social housing projects.
- Particular emphasis is put on peer learning between participants but also with professionals in the Dutch social housing sector.
- You will focus on the application of lessons learned into practice as we will guide you in formulating your own plan or programme for the development of social housing in your own country.
