The History of Art - Relations between Italy and the Netherlands BA from Utrecht Summer School offers an opportunity to travel back in time, combining two cities that played a pivotal part in their country's art: Florence and Utrecht. This highly interactive course enabling you to experience, discuss and learn about the artwork first-hand. Furthermore, you will develop an awareness of the historical context and a feel for the daily life of the period. 

Aim of the course

The fundamental goals of this History of Art - Relations between Italy and the Netherlands course are to introduce students to the art and architecture of Florence and Rome in its historical context, and in doing so, to make them familiar with the origins, nature, and development of the Renaissance in the visual arts. Mastery of basic concepts and terminology of art historical studies is another essential aspect of this course.

Programme Structure

  • You will also be able to recognise the main painters and distinguish different techniques and symbols, you will have become confident in discussing and analysing artworks (including ones you have never seen before). 
  • Furthermore, you will develop an awareness of the historical context and a feel for the daily life of the period and finally, had an unforgettable summer in two of Europe's most beautiful cities
