Overview

In this Longer Independent Living offered by EIT Digital Master School, participants tackled cases aimed at developing solutions to extend physiotherapy programs to homes, bringing freedom of action to people with motor impairments, assisting the diagnosis, analysis and supporting treatment planning for mobility disorders and improving home hospitalization as an alternative to in-hospital care.

Longer life expectancy creates new challenges for societies worldwide. Public budgets in the healthcare systems are under unprecedented pressure to maintain quality of care to an aging society.

Policy makers need to find ways of providing a wide range of elderly assistance services dealing with both psychological and neurological diseases to conditions of frailty and loneliness. ICT-based solutions could reduce expensive healthcare services by detecting early stage (mental and physical) problems thus avoiding larger health problems by suitable lifestyle interventions.
