The English for University Studies programme (known as EUS) at Northumbria Newcastle Branch is specifically designed to help you develop your language skills and prepare for your target pathway programme.


Upon successful completion, and subject to specific requirements, you will be guaranteed a place on one of our pathway programmes (including the International Foundation Programme and Graduate Certificate in Business).

In this English for University Studies programme from Northumbria Newcastle Branch you will then have a place on one of Northumbria University’s undergraduate or postgraduate programmes subject to successful completion of the pathway programme.

Teaching and assessment

The programme is designed to provide a solid foundation to studying in a British university and you will benefit from staff who are used to supporting international students through this important transition.

Teaching and learning is carried out through seminars, lectures, tutorials and workshops, totalling between 16-20 hours per week. In addition, you will be expected to spend 15-20 hours a week on independent study through self-directed learning. Teaching and self-directed learning also makes use of the University’s electronic learning portal (Blackboard) where you will have access to a range of learning materials and you will be encouraged to use the technology in preparation for your future studies.
