Overview

Concerns have been expressed about growing mistrust of scientific expertise in areas such as immunization and climate policy. Taking a cultural and communicative approach, this Expertise, Trust and Narrative course at Aarhus University will help you gain theoretical insights into the communication of trust in and mistrust of scientific expertise in various media forms, as well as skills in critically analyzing discourses and narratives in communication where trust may be at stake.

Programme Structure

  • In this course, you will gain skills and experience in identifying and analyzing instances where expertise is challenged, where you characterize the instances in relation to relevant empirical and theoretical literature. 
  • You will also learn how to characterize how and why public trust is affected by this development, and gain skills in analyzing how trustworthiness and knowledge are communicated in science narratives and personal narratives, using relevant theories and methods of analysis.
