By the end of this The Private Apartments course at Al-Mahdi Institute, students are expected to have gained a better understanding of the way in which the Qur’an employs language and historical context to convey its message, as well a greater appreciation of the Qur’anic interplay between theology, law and ethics.

Key facts:

What are the ethical teachings of the Qur’an? How are Muslims supposed to conduct themselves in the presence of the Messenger of God r and with one another in their day-to-day lives? What are the duties and responsibilities we have towards each other? How, in a civic society, ought people to treat one another at times of peace as well as conflict? Is there a difference between islām and imān – and if so, how are these connected to personal growth and moral development?

The Private Apartments course at Al-Mahdi Institute shall attempt to answer these and many other questions by examining chapter 49 of the Qur’an entitled al-Ḥujurāt. Students will not only be introduced to the major themes and contents of this chapter, its teachings and interelated topics, but also provided a glimpse into the traditional methods of Qur’anic exegesis.
