This 10-week course is perfect for aspiring writers who don’t know where to start, as well as those prepping for a bigger writing project and want to get some basics under their belt.

The programme

Students in the Creative Writing - An Introduction (Stage 1) course from Arts University Bournemouth will examine and explore approaches methods for generating ideas, how to develop characters and how to set the scene using the five senses. You will understand how to let your characters speak for themselves and how dialogue can reveal character and move the story along.

Students will examine ways in which to form structure, plot, point of view and tense. Supported also, by examining different types of creative writing and how and where to submit work for possible publication.

Supported with discussions, individual and group exercises in class, you will be encouraged to write at home and to share your work with the group to gain feedback should you wish. (It’s not compulsory!)

Aims 

  • To develop creative writing skills in a number of genres and to discover and experience creative ways in which to get writing and keep writing.
  • To explore processes that offer inspiration and enjoyment.
