The Australian healthcare industry is undergoing a major digital transformation, with new technologies and shifting patient expectations changing the way that patients interact with healthcare services.

As a result, the sector could greatly benefit from the application of human-centred design to support efficient and effective services with patients’ needs at the core.

Healthcare Design aims to equip you with an understanding of the current Australian health landscape, the fundamentals of great service and experience design in healthcare, and the opportunities for re-design in the future. 

You’ll choose an area to specialise to create your own prototype while working with the expert guidance from our industry partners to address a real-world healthcare problem.

What you'll learn during the Healthcare Design course at RMIT University

  • Gain conceptual knowledge of Australia’s health and social (aged and disability) care system including funding sources, governmental jurisdictions, policy settings and regulations, and diagnose problems and critically access solutions in healthcare.
  • Evaluate contemporary design frameworks and justify their application to designing efficacious services in health care
  • Design digitally enabled health product or service artefacts such as maps or protoypes, incorporating evidence bases and actors such as customers, payors and investors. business stakeholders to approve, including an approach to change management and adoption
