Overview
Opportunities
Organisations source and recruit their employees from the labour market. The labour market in turn is a representative sample or portion of society. In many countries, including Australia, emigration has led to a multicultural and increasingly diverse market to source from. Diversity is not just national identity or culture though; it also comes from other sources, such as our age, education, religion, disability and gender, to name just a few. This means that a degree of diversity is evident in every organisation and with this diversity comes the need for considered or contingent management. This consideration is important as you should not apply the same management strategies to every individual, if for no other reason than the fact we all have different values, emotions, motivations, attitudes and perceptions. The diversity of your workforce might explain some of these differences or perhaps may further pronounce their effect or importance. In either regard, it is important to appreciate or consider the diverse nature of those you work with.
