About the course
Although Berlin is an international city, you will find it much easier to understand your surroundings and enjoy the city if you have acquired some basics in German.
German is still an important language for business, science, and the arts, and is the most widely spoken language in Europe - plus, it's easy to learn for English-speaking students. This Start German short course is offered at TU Berlin.
Programme Structure
Goals in this course:- Students will understand and use very simple, familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
- Students will learn to read very simple sentences and to understand very basic phrases, numbers or the ABC. They get an insight into the difference between formal and informal speech.
- Students will learn to use simple phrases and sentences to describe where they live, what they are studying and some more basic personal facts.
- Students will get an introduction into German grammar, esp. into present conjugation of regular and irregular verbs, basic rules of article use and grammatical gender in German, basic rules of plural formation in German.
- Students will also be introduced into the some fundamental rules of German pronunciation and orthography.

- Participants of the TU Berlin Summer & & Winter University must meet the following requirements: (i) B2 level English, or equivalent and (ii) at least one year of university experience.
- Working professionals are also welcome to take part in the program.
- It is recommended for students to bring their own laptop to fully participate in the course.
