What you will learn at MacEwan University - School of Continuing Education Critical Care Nursing or Emergency Nursing
The Critical Care Nursing Certificate of Achievement will help students develop the skills they need to deliver safe, competent and ethical care to critically ill patients. This certificate integrates theory and application of clinical judgment related to specific disorders common to critical care and addresses rare but life-threatening situations.
Students in this certificate program will discuss many diverse topics such as appropriate interventions and management, pathophysiology, pharmacological and technological interventions, relevant assessment findings and the prioritization of problems.
The Emergency Nursing Certificate of Achievement reviews the anatomic structure and physiologic function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, neurologic, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems. Students will focus on the integration of theory and application of clinical knowledge related to specific disorders common to the emergency department.
Students in this program will examine pathology, relevant assessment findings, prioritization of problems, appropriate interventions and management of clients across the lifespan. The certificate program also includes an exploration of legal and ethical issues, as well as safety related implications for nursing practice.

- To be eligible for this program, you must be an LPN, RPN, RN or graduate nurse with a temporary permit. Internationally Educated Nurses with current registration in any jurisdiction are welcome to apply.
- Other healthcare professionals may be admitted with the consent of the department.
- We are passionate about student success and highly recommend that applicants have recent direct patient care experience in a medical/surgical acute care centre, or similar setting.
