Overview
Based at the Architectural Association in Bedford Square, this film production course offers participants the opportunity to design worlds as sites for architecture and entertainment. The programme will enable those interested in working with the Unreal game engine to produce realistic and evocative environments.
Participants in the Unreal Worlds programme will develop their skills in Unreal in order to produce a short three act film, in which the design of spaces, objects and lighting all contribute to the creation of consistent and beautiful filmic worlds. Exercises intend to introduce students to some of the fundamental elements of narrative design, including storyboards, mood boards and character design.
Prior experience of using Unreal is not necessary, but basic 3D modelling skills are required.
At the end of the course there will be an exhibition of the work and feedback from people within the film and gaming professions.Programme Structure
- The course is designed for people interested in working with emerging filmmaking tools such as motion capture and game engines like Unreal to produce realistic and evocative environments derived from an art historical way of looking and producing visual art. Students will gain a broad understanding of the various production processes involved in making computer generated environments and imagery.
- The course does not require prior experience in using Unreal but a basic level of 3d modelling skills are required. Students should bring a laptop, mouse, sketchbook and also have Unreal Engine and Rhino installed on their computers. We will also make use of the facilities at the AA such as the computer lab to conduct training sessions as well as to produce final work.
