Overview
The Koshirakura Landscape Workshop program from Architectural Association invites active observation and creative individual responses to the social and cultural landscape of Japan. Cyclical intervals between the three workshops are intended to provoke new knowledge while bringing together contrasting notions of global and local: GLOCAL
Applicants may consider one, two or all three workshops according to their interests
With support from Maeda Corporation, the Japan Study Program encourages collaboration between individuals in association with various cultural institutions. There are bursaries available for visiting tutors and students from the AA.
Program Director: Shin Egashira in association with Maeda Corporation Global Design Team of ICI Lab, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts, Tokamachi Town Hall, Koshirakura Village, Toride Community and AA Hooke Park.Programme Structure
- The programme explores the intelligence inherent in locally-available materials and artifices by creating architectural forms that reflect and register the natural and social climate of Koshirakura. Projects in recent years have included a communal kitchen, a local bus shelter and a water drinking observatory built from reused building material.
