About

Interiorcity students at Architectural Association will create 1:1 structures and furniture using parametric design and digital fabrication to demonstrate their proposals.

Overview

As the pandemic surged through Brazil, one positive consequence that emerged from the lockdowns was a new type of valorization of intimate outdoor public spaces for play and social (although at a distance!) encounters.

Small public plazas, otherwise ignored, became the location for spontaneous outdoor gyms, rediscovery of playgrounds, and much needed venting!

Two years on, with the pandemic a distant memory, this connection with outdoor public space still carries the memory of the therapeutic qualities it provided during harder times.

As a reaction, the Interiorcity course from Architectural Association will explore creating play structures and communal furniture to inspire both adults and children to play, explore and interact, not only outdoors, but also indoors, as to discover how the creativity of the city and the importance of natural elements in outdoor public space can influence and transform our interior spaces.
