Overview
After two years documenting Downtown LA, Architectural Association is shifting the focus to the west coast to study episodic and spatial encounters between Downtown Santa Monica and Venice during the Relax course.
By the beach, we will use para-disciplinary representational tools such as drawings, renderings, photographs, videos, 3D models and performances to question the LA aesthetic in an early and complex 21st Century context.
In a post-digital world saturated by gradients, glitches, and other vibrant visual qualities, we want to think about architecture’s potential during this delirious moment and operate within the city’s dreamlike and narrative landscape.
We’ll journey around LA together to experience our favorite spaces and host talks from a series of architectural storytellers. By referencing films about the area and abstracting key scenes we will re-compose physical short stories about LA for a joint exhibition at the end of our time together.
