Businesses both big and small understand that there is a huge amount of hype surrounding the world of data analytics at the moment. Whilst some may presume it’s just a phase, data analytics is certainly here to stay. Selecting and using the right type of analytics is necessary for companies to make insightful business decisions.
This practical The Analytics Playbook - Mastering the Workflow of Analytics course at Singapore Management University provides a hands-on tour of the following types of analytics used to unlock new value
- “Experimental” - understanding which actions have the greatest impact
- “Diagnostic” - understanding why things happen
- “Predictive” - understanding what might happen next
In covering these forms of analytics, participants will gain a thorough appreciation of the field - moving from established methods for uncovering new insight to advanced machine learning approaches.
In addition to the appreciation of technique, participants will learn how to use advanced, "zero-code", and "open-source" data science tools to perform each type of analytics.

The course is not sector-specific, with a range of real-world examples used to illustrate the workflows.
Prerequisites:
Whilst this course can be completed without prior knowledge, most value will be found by those who
- have attended SMU Academy’s “Data Analytics @Work” / "Enterprise Analytics 101: Better Use of Data and Analytics at Work" and “Data Analytics with Power BI” courses
- have fundamental skills handling data and building reports using a tool such as MS Excel
