Overview

What you will study

The Current Issues in Ports and Terminals Post Covid-19 course offered by World Maritime University will address the latest port development and investigate a number of relevant topics in depth. We will discuss how to turn challenges into opportunities, strengthening port competitiveness and contributing to hinterland economy.

This requires a review of the role of a port from the perspective of:

  • the land and sea interface;
  • an industry cluster;
  • a logistics and information hub;
  • a sustainable energy hub.

During the course, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of port business and management;
  • Familiarize themselves with the extended network in which a port operates;
  • Understand the different economic, managerial and strategic challenges faced by ports;
  • Digest the successful innovations in the port industry and become familiar with the range of enabling factors for port competitiveness;
  • Reflect on the development trends and the potential turning points, as well as the required preparation to embrace the changes;
  • Develop an appreciation of socio-economic port project appraisal, thereby helping port authorities to develop business cases which are better designed to help government decision making;
  • Achieve an in-depth understanding of project finance from the view of development institutions and agencies, such as multi-lateral development banks and Export Credit Agencies.
