Overview
Key facts
- The objective of Nanyang Technological University's Intelligent Automation course is to provide a high-level practical overview of Industry 4.0 and Intelligent Automation (IA) technologies.
- The course will also address how IA technology (from Robotic Process Auomation (RPA) and Cognitive agents to Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL)) can be used for the different functional areas within a business or organization, both at the individual technology and systems level, e.g. how to evaluate what would be a useful technology or solution for a digital market strategy.
Digitization and Digitalization is already underway in many businesses and organizations, albeit at different pace.
- Underlying technologies like Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Natural Language Processing and Generation (NLP/NLG), Cognitive Agents (e.g. Virtual/Digital Assistants, Chatbots), Machine and Deep Learning (ML/DL), Smart Workflow, Web Technology, Machine Vision, Autonomics, and others are already being used in solutions and getting better and smarter.
- Advanced production and operations techniques are already combining smart digital technologies to create a digital enterprise that is not only interconnected and autonomous but can communicate, analyze, and use data to drive further intelligent action back in the physical world.
- Advanced analytics and Big Data analytics are already being implemented and the analytic tools are within the reach of even small companies. Applications in the area of visualization of data are matured and the use of ML and Data Mining techniques are gaining popularity as they make their way into forecasting, simulation and optimization solutions.
Programme Structure
There are two parts to this course:- The morning session will address the underlying technologies, what they are and how they can be used individually and as part of a system or solution. Some of the technologies seem to overlap, e.g. autonomics and robotics process automation, or machine learning and deep learning, etc. We will address the differences and what makes each unique and its application.
- The afternoon session will look at various scenarios, events and opportunities to use the technologies in the business and organization. We will look at use cases and see that can be applied across sectors and industries, and even in small to medium size companies.
