You will improve your speaking skills by means of discussions, debates and other assignments. You will also practice how to give an oral presentation including presentation techniques, rhetorical devices, pronunciation, and language practice.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • write a well-structured, coherent and cohesive argumentative text;
  • assess and critically evaluate academic sources;
  • recognize and avoid plagiarism by paraphrasing and using appropriate referencing rules;
  • use a wide range of academic vocabulary, and appropriate academic register;
  • present your opinions in a well-structured oral presentation with appropriate presentation techniques and visual aids in an academic setting;
  • use a variety of simple, compound and complex sentences at C1 level;
  • use accurate grammatical structures at C1 level.

Programme Structure

The focus of English for Academic Purposes is on the productive skills: writing and speaking

The focus in the first two weeks is on:

  • writing argumentative texts;
  • issues such as text structure and incorporating sources;
  • improving the readability of your writing;
  • grammar at C1 level;
  • academic vocabulary and style.
