Overview

Different methods of creating technical drawings will be explored - starting from drawing flats by hand, to digitising your analogue designs, to creating your designs in Adobe Illustrator from a scratch to using a template.  By the end of the Technical Fashion Drawing in Adobe Illustrator course at London College of Fashion you will be confident in creating your own flats by hand and in Adobe Illustrator to fashion industry standards.

Programme Structure

Courses include:

  • Introduction to creating flat drawings by hand and its methodology - technical drawing rules and their application
  • Techniques for creating flats by hand
  • Drawing different garments by hand, including tops, skirts, trousers and draped garments, shirts, coats, jackets, knitwear, etc
  • Basic techniques for digitising your analogue drawings in Adobe Illustrator
  • Advanced techniques for creating flats in Adobe Illustrator from a scratch
  • Creating flats in Adobe Illustrator using a technical drawing template
  • Creating basic garments - tops, skirts and trousers
  • Creating complex garments – draped garments, shirts, coats, jackets, knitwear, etc.
  • Creating complex design elements - creating buttons, pockets, collars, drawstrings, zips, etc.
  • Adding colour and fabric to your flats
  • Using colour groups in Adobe Illustrator  
  • Creating different colourways and recolouring the artwork
  • Creating a pattern in Illustrator
  • Creating range plans and spec sheets

Audience

  • Beginners, however students are required to have basic Photoshop and Illustrator skills for fashion design or experience of similar software programs. Please note this is a fast paced course and requires students to be computer literate.
  • This course is for students aged 18 and older.
