In western industrialized nations, the deep-seated “status quo” of how a government operates needs the injection of new ideas from new leaders.

Emerging Leaders brings together an international cohort of rising professionals and renowned Harvard faculty for an empowering and energizing week of learning. Through a cutting-edge pedagogy, including a one-day simulation, this program will develop and expand the capacity of the next generation of leaders. You will gain the skills and strategic frameworks necessary to capitalize on opportunities and overcome obstacles, returning home inspired to implement your vision of a democratic society.

Programme Structure

Emerging Leaders is designed in three parts: policy lectures, skill building, and integration. Through the use of a unique gaming tool created by Harvard Kennedy School faculty specifically for this course, participants will diagnose their own challenges as emerging leaders and develop strategies to advance their own vision.

The program will develop and expand the capacity of participants to skillfully:

  • Exercise effective leadership, communications and negotiations strategies
  • Implement integrated media and personal communications and strategic messaging plans
  • Develop or expand policy analysis and implementation skills
  • Undertake keen political and stakeholder analysis within the framework of representative democracies
  • Understand organizational management and methods of effective intervention

Academic Requirements

  • Admission to this program is competitive and is based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. There is no formal educational requirement, but fluency in written and spoken English is a necessity for the program.
  • Early application is encouraged. Qualified candidates are admitted on a rolling, space-available basis, and the program often fills to capacity. Because of the interactive nature of this program, the number of participants is limited. Applications received after the deadline will be considered only if space remains in the class.
