History
Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is one of the younger higher education institutions in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia – founded in 1965. Since 1988 our university has carried the name of one of the city’s finest sons. Today around 35,000 students study at a modern campus under conditions ideally suited to academic life.

Housing services
The city of Düsseldorf and its suburbs offer many nice places to live, but the housing situation is tight. When preparing your stay in Düsseldorf, make sure to look for accommodation well in advance, ideally before travelling to Germany.

Student clubs
Student self-administrationThose students enrolled at the university comprise the “student body” in terms of the Higher Education Acts. They manage their affairs themselves and have access to all kinds of media. The student associations at university contribute towards the formation of opinions on political issues. These associations include the student parliament, the students’ union (or AStA) and the student representatives (Fachschaften).
