History
UCT Prague was founded in 1952 but its origins date back to 1807 when the first course in chemistry was delivered at Prague Polytechnic. Reorganization of the polytechnic in 1920 resulted in the transformation of the chemistry department into the School of Chemical Technology, one of the seven sections of the Czech Technical University.
Education
UCT Prague (in addition to departments accomodating the needs of the entire university) has four faculties:
- Faculty of Chemical Technology
- Faculty of Environmental Technology
- Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology
- Faculty of Chemical Engineering
Research
Currently UCT Prague boasts a number of excellent experts such as Jana Hajšlová, member of the EU Advisory Group “Food Quality and Safety”; František Štěpánek, who has been awarded an ERC grant; Martin Pumera, head of the excellent team for advanced functional nanorobots.
Notable prior efforts include:

Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Housing services
- UCT Prague provides international students accommodation in dormitories located in the southern part of Prague, in the district of Chodov.
- There are two buildings, Sázava and Volha, which offer either double or triple rooms. Two neighboring rooms share a bathroom, a toilet, and a small corridor with a fridge. They are equipped with basic furniture.
Library services
- UCT Prague operates the superbly equipped library, ChemTK, situated in the modern National Library of Technology (NTK) building. The ChemTK collection includes more than 100,000 books, handbooks, encyclopaedias, periodicals, and other publications. ChemTK subscribes to 300 professional periodicals and provides electronic access to scientific journals. Over 2,500 journals.
Medical services
- All international students entering the Czech Republic for more than two months must undergo a health entrance examination which certifies one's state of good health for studying.
Campus life
UCT Prague has three buildings in Prague 6. The whole area together with the Theological Faculty of Charles University and the Czech Technical University form the Campus Dejvice.
