ANU is Australia's national university and has a unique history among Australian universities. 

From late 1944 to 1945, discussions between intellectuals and administrators, including H C 'Nugget' Coombs, Alfred Conlon, and Roy Douglas 'Pansy' Wright set the scene for the establishment of a National University.

Student services

Quiet, private offices are available to ANU staff and other researchers working in Northern Australia. They are equipped with internet connection, telephone, quality furnishings and managed desktop computers with IT support are optional.  Fees are based on services provided and affiliation with a University or research organisations. ANU users are eligible for a subsidised rate.

Housing services

ANU offers a broad range of accommodation choices for students, within a diverse and vibrant community.

  • Bruce Hall is proud to have been the first undergraduate residence built at The Australian National University in 1961. The Packard wing was built later to serve the needs of the ANU postgraduate community.
  • Burgmann College blends the best of collegiate values in a contemporary way and is located in a splendid bush and parkland setting on campus.
  • The Postgraduate Village at Burgmann College was completed in 2004 and features some of the most modern and comfortable accommodation on campus. It accommodates 120 self-catered places for postgraduate and Honours students in a village street...

Library services

The Chifley, Hancock and Law Library branches offer a range of group study rooms for ANU students and staff to book. There are a variety of room sizes available, and each offers a variety of AV equipment.

Sports facilities

The objectives of the ANU Sport are to promote and provide a diverse and exciting range of professionally-provided, affordable sporting and physical recreation participation opportunities for all of our members. To enhance your university experience by offering health, fitness and leisure activities to make your time at the ANU a whole lot more energetic, invigorating and enjoyable. Essential to this purpose, we encourage and assist in the formation among members of sporting and physical recreation clubs, and to support and co-ordinate the activities of clubs, so they can provide exceptional experiences for their members, both on and off the competition arena!

Student clubs

ANU Students’ Association is a student-run organisation at ANU, with three aims: wins for students, a vibrant campus life and a fair go for all.They run and organise social events, employ 3 Student Assistance Officers, and advocate for students’ interests to the university and governments. We also run the Brian Kenyon Student Space in Union Court, as well as a bunch of other services that will help you during your time at uni.
