About

History

Temple University's history begins in 1884, when a young working man asked Russell Conwell if he could tutor him at night. A well-known Philadelphia minister, Conwell quickly said yes. It wasn't long before he was teaching several dozen students—working people who could only attend class at night but had a strong desire to make something of themselves.

Education

Temple University educates a vibrant student body and creates new knowledge through innovative teaching, research and other creative endeavors. Our urban setting provides transformative opportunities for engaged scholarship, experiential learning, and discovery of self, others and the world. We open our doors to a diverse community of learners and scholars who strive to make the possible real.

Research

Temple is investing millions of dollars into new and upgraded facilities as part of the Visualize Temple campus plan and the complementary Verdant Temple landscaping plan. Temple’s vibrant residential campus continues to evolve, with exciting new academic and recreation spaces, as well as significant renovations and upgrades.

Student Life

Campus life

To know what Temple is really about, you have to experience it firsthand. Our Main Campus is an energetic community of students, faculty, and local culture. And the opportunities don't stop there. For Temple students, all of Philadelphia is a place to learn and branch out.

Sports facilities

Recreational Sports activities have traditionally been among the most popular of the non-academic pursuits of college students. College life is more exciting and fulfilling when classroom learning is supplemented by a varied and productive array of leisure endeavors.

The primary goal of the Department of Campus Recreation is to provide the university community with quality-oriented leisure time opportunities in a safe environment. These sport-related activities may take many forms, such as intramurals, sport clubs, informal recreation, special events, aquatics, group fitness, adapted recreation or student staff development.

Student clubs

You will never be bored at Temple. On a daily basis, you can choose from an eclectic array of cultural, athletic and social activities, such as student-run clubs, community-service projects, athletic events and musical performances.

These activities aren't simply time fillers. They're also opportunities to meet fellow students and expand your personal and professional networks.
