History

The University of Manitoba was established in 1877 to confer degrees on students graduating from its three founding colleges - St. Boniface College, St. John's College, and Manitoba College. The University was the first to be established in western Canada.

Career Services assists all University of Manitoba undergraduate and graduate students with career planning and job search questions. Alumni can also receive assistance up to 6 months after graduation. Whether you are undecided about your career direction or looking to plan for success, we can help! We encourage you to start your career planning as early as possible during your degree and to take advantage of experiences that help build the knowledge, skills and attributes that can lead to endless possibilities.

Housing services

Each year, over 1,350 students get the full benefit of the university experience by living on the UM campus. Each residence has its own unique atmosphere based on the interests of the students who live there. Explore our spaces to find out which one is right for you.

Medical services

The University of Manitoba has two health clinics that provide the effective, patient-centered, collaborative, multidisciplinary primary care required for the success and well-being of UM students, faculty and staff.

Campus life

Each year, University of Manitoba classrooms are filled with over 26,000 of the brightest students from across the nation and more than 100 countries worldwide. 

They are diligently supported in their efforts by over 5,000 faculty and staff committed to ensuring an outstanding learning experience. With two ever growing campuses and a population that makes it in essence Manitoba's third largest city, the University of Manitoba is a bustling knowledge community with an international reputation and reach.

Sports facilities

We encourage Manitobans to make life vibrant, rewarding and fun. More than 25,000 people use our recreation facilities at both campuses every year.

The Active Living Centre is a 100,000-square-foot facility and offers 1,000 free weights and accessories, 160 pieces of cardio equipment, a 12-metre climbing wall and a 200-metre elevated running track.

Student clubs

The campuses include a vibrant Indigenous community of thousands of students, staff, faculty and alumni.
