History

The history of the higher technical education in Slovakia has started in the year 1762 by the foundation of the Academy of Mining and Forestry in Banská Štiavnica. The establishment of the Academy of Mining and Forestry was important moment in the history of higher technical education, as it was the first educational institution in Slovakia providing technical education at the university level. 

Education

STU offers education in technical fields and involves students in research in natural sciences, computer sciences, construction, architecture, materials technologies, chemistry and food technologies.

Research

STU is a research-oriented university. During its existence has contributed significantly to the development of scientific knowledge, dissemination and use of scientific knowledge for the benefit of mankind.

Student services

Each faculty and the Institute of Management of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has its own Student Affairs Office (Students Affairs Office has in the Slovak language more variations: "Študijné oddelenie" or "Útvar pedagogických cinností" or "Pedagogické oddelenie").

Student Affairs Office of a faculty deals with the administrative agenda of all faculty students studying at all levels of study.

Housing services

Students can apply for accommodation in 1-3 beds rooms in student houses of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. Capacities are limited and so early bird catches the worm. Majority of rooms look like flats with 1-3 rooms and with common WC and shower.

Student houses accommodation is provided on the basis of the official acceptation letter for study. Prices for bed differ: 70-100 EUR/month.

Library services

Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has 7 specialised libraries. Each library is located inside a faculty premises.

Each library contains literature orientated to respective faculty study programs. Students can enjoy access to scientific databases and electronic information sources, but they can also spend there quiet moments of studying.

Medical services

The doctors in the Youth and Dental Clinics take care of the student's health. Health care services are provided by the state and private providers.

Students can attend general practitioners for students working at student houses. European Union citizens must prove valid European Health Insurance Card. Medical treatment provided by private services is available for payment in cash.

Sports facilities

Student houses of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava were built up as complex centers providing students with all services including sport activities. Gym is a part of each student house. Students must arrange attendance days and time.

Student clubs

Student organizations of STU, who, after assessing the submitted documents, meet the conditions under the Rector's Directive No. 1/2017-SR Rules for Support of Student Organizations of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava as amended by Amendment No 1.
