History

AUT has been a place of learning for 120 years, since its beginnings as Auckland Technical School in 1895, with 137 students enrolled in vocational education and the trades. In 2000, AUT was granted university status, and it has since grown from being New Zealand’s youngest university to become one of the country’s largest and highest ranked.

Education

At AUT you can study a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes – from business and engineering to law and science. The programmes are taught by world-leading staff and often include opportunities to gain industry experience.

Our research achievements reflect the variety and breadth of our research efforts. Housing services

AUT has two student accommodation complexes close to its City Campus in central Auckland and one accommodation complex near its North Campus on Auckland’s North Shore. 

This is a convenient option, especially if you’re in your first year of study or from outside Auckland. Our student accommodation is safe and modern, and just minutes away from campus. When you live in student accommodation, you become part of a community and have many opportunities to make friends and social connections.

Library services

AUT has a library on each its three campuses, offering a wide range of textbooks as well as assessment advice and workshops to help you succeed in your studies.

ICT services

The ICT Service Desk can help with computers, network, internet, printers and other ICT services.

Medical services

AUT has medical centres for students at its City and North Campus. These are staffed by doctors and nurses who provide a range of medical services. The South Campus offers nursing services only.

Campus life

AUT has three campuses with a range of study options:

  • AUT City Campus
  • AUT North Campus
  • AUT South Campus.

City Campus is in the heart of Auckland City and is AUT’s largest campus. You can study most of AUT’s programmes at this campus, and have access to a wide range of student services and two student accommodation complexes.

North Campus is on Auckland’s North Shore and is the home of many of our health, education and sport programmes. Its facilities include student accommodation, support services, cafes and AUT’s biggest gym.

South Campus is located in the heart of Manukau in South Auckland. It offers a range of programmes you can study, as well as student support services to help you make the most of your studies.

Sports facilities

You can find a gym at each of AUT’s campuses, each offering modern equipment, group exercise classes and access to other sport and fitness services.

For example, the AUT Business School is accredited by EQUIS and AACSB International, our engineering degrees are accredited by Engineering New Zealand, and our tourism programmes by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
