History
The campus became operational at the start of the 2010 academic year and the completion of Phase 1 saw the opening of a complex structure that includes laboratories, dormitories, classrooms and faculty offices. Phase 2 has seen the opening of a second cluster of buildings, which includes more dorms, a multi-purpose hall with fitness center, pools, labs and administrative offices.

The Career Services Office and Alumni Relations aim to provide career advancement and employment and internship facilitation services to Masdar Institute students who are seeking access to Abu Dhabi- and UAE-based employers.
It seeks for its alumni to be contributors to the country’s sustainable knowledge economy and provide a return on human capital investment to the UAE. To that end the Career Services Office and Alumni Relations assists in placing Masdar Institute graduates within innovative companies, organizations and firms that are part of the UAE’s growing research and development ecosystem and are contributing to Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming a hub for clean energy and sustainable technologies.

A place for research and study, the Knowledge Centre has more than 900 square meters of space for students and researchers, and primarily offers a wide range of electronic information resources, as well as a limited number of paper books, magazines and journals.

Campus life
The residential concept for the Masdar Institute campus focuses on the creation of lively energetic neighborhoods. The Institute campus is formed around a hierarchy of streets and squares that make up the backdrop to an environment of integration, communication and cooperation.
Apartments are accessed via a fully shaded atrium space that exploits thermal mass and natural ventilation to provide free cooling while atrium roof lights allow diffuse daylight, blocking direct sunlight. The apartment units themselves have screen-shielded windows and windows located near the ceilings to maximize natural light, both from the outside and from the interior atrium, while maintaining privacy.
