History

As soon as Korea gained its independence from Japanese imperialism in 1945, the cabinet members of the Shanghai Provisional Government established Kookmin University in 1946 with the aim of training leaders to rebuild the nation.

Student services

IIE offers diverse Student Support Services including Extra-Curricular Activities, Scholarships, and Audits to enhance students' cultural experience and academic success. IIE will do all it can to help students be successful academically and socially in Korea.

Housing services

Dormitory:Besides the residential space of students, there is a large cafeteria, laundary rooms, fitness rooms, and a convenience store in our dormtory complex. Several lounges provid students with the most comfortable study space. Gireum dormitory and jeongneung dormitory are offcampus residential facility for international students. Each room is equipped with internet access, beds, desks, chairs, and other necessities.

Library services

Sungkok Library : The library has a huge database and has 1 million books, multimedia data, 1,100 kinds of internal and external scholarly journals, 40,000 kinds of foreign online journals (70 DBs), 2,700 kinds of local online journals, 30,000 kinds of e-Books, and 2,700 seats in cubicles. It greatly contributes to the academic atmosphere of Kookmin University.

ICT services

The University has several computer rooms for general use, which can be accessed with a valid Student Card. You can copy for free if you bring your copy paper.

Medical services

The Wellness Center supplies customized exercise programs to improve the physical strength and health of visitors. After a check-up of the individual's physical strength and nutrition, and an exercise consultation, visitors have the option to take health improvement classes, obesity classes, silver classes (for senior citizens) and/or physical strength improvement classes suited to their needs.

Campus life

The dormitory operating team manages and operates the guest house for invited figures, exchange professors from foreign sister schools. persons working in international cooperation with Kookmin University, participants in international science councils or seminars hosted by Kookmin University, visiting professors, and temporary foreign instructors. There are total of 33 guest rooms available in the old guest house(Building B) and the new Guest house (Building A). They range from 20 to 69m2. Each room has basic facilities for daily living, a cooking space, and all kinds of electric products including a television and a computer with a LAN communication network.

Sports facilities

Employees at the Wellness Center have extensive training and a great deal of background experience in supplying proper advice and specialized exercise regimes.

Student clubs

Kookmin University has about 70 clubs and they can be roughly classified as academic, religious, athletic, event, and performance clubs. Every club performs P.R. activities at the beginning of each term for the freshmen and the rest of the student body.
