Founded in 1906 by Korea's ecumenically minded Jogye Order, Dongguk remains one of the few Buddhist affiliated universities in the world. Yet its doors have always been open to students and teachers of all faiths and philosophies.
Following the foundational spirit, the University aims at making the Buddhist spirit and the Korean culture known worldwide, and further at cultivating persons of talent with leadership skills, who will devote themselves to realizing ideals of the nation and mankind by researching and teaching academic theories and their application methods.

The Namsan Residence hall that was built in February 2012 is a dormitory for enrolled students. The residence consists of 373 double rooms and 5 single rooms (for the disabled) furnished with modern facilities.Subsidiary facilities: Student lounges, seminar rooms, computer area, laundry room, gym, information plaza, cafeteria, convenience store, café.
The Conversation buddy program is a 1:1 buddy program which aims to help international students to improve Korean language proficiency and to adjust to living in Korea and studying at Dongguk. Your Student ID Card is a multi-functional smart card. It can be used at the Central Library (to enter and check-out books), as a transportation card (bus, subway) and as a pre-paid check card (cafeterias, campus stores).
