Chuo University

History

It was in 1885, in the aftermath of the Meiji Restoration, that Chuo University came into the world as Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School). The School was founded in Kanda-Nishikicho, Tokyo by 18 young attorneys, among them Rokuichiro Masujima who took office as the School’s first director.

Education

For studies in global water environment course, practical curriculum is available based on industrial-governmental-academic partnerships. Education is conducted basically in the following education and research cycle with cooperation of a diversity of experts in related fields.

Research

The Academic Researcher Database provides profiles, research results, current research topics, and other information on the full-time faculty of Chuo University, and provides functions such as simple search, keyword search, and searching by field of specialty.

Career

The Career Design Support Center Office provides a wide range of practical and concrete activities and services to support students, mainly third-year and above, in their efforts to secure employment. The Office offers career counseling and industry research meetings, as well as seminars centered around providing guidance on practical aspects of the job seeking process, such as mock job interviews

Housing services

Chuo University opened its International Residence in Hino, Tokyo in 2011, as part of the University’s efforts to promote internationalization. Not only new students but also already-enrolled students, privately funded international students, and international exchange students live together in an international residence with a total of 64 private rooms and communal living spaces, where they communicate with one another and develop international perspectives. In addition, an international exchange residence with 94 all-in-one private rooms was opened in 2012.

Library services

With a history stretching back over 125 years, the Chuo University Library boasts a total collection of approximately 2.1 million volumes. Information on the entire collection is stored on a database, and can be searched in a matter of seconds from terminals connected to the Library’s system Chuo Online Information System .

Medical services

The Health Center offers medical examination primarily for internal medicine, as well as first-aid treatment for external injuries and referral to specialists. Costs for medical care are not covered by health insurance programs. However, costs related to medical treatment are based on standards set by the University, with costs for medication being comparable to those covered by health insurance.

Campus life

Tama Campus, located in the Tama Hills Natural Park in the city of Hachioji, Tokyo, is home to five faculties: Law, Economics, Commerce, Letters, and Policy Studies, and its’ graduate schools. Situated on 518,401m^2 of land, the expansive campus houses the Faculties as well as research facilities, clubs and circles, libraries, and indoor/outdoor sports facilities. Also on campus is the “Honoo-no-Tou” building, where students can find an ideal study environment to prepare for the extremely difficult national examinations.

Sports facilities

Every year, the Chuo University International Students Association promotes intercultural exchange through sports competitions among international and Japanese students. In the past, we have enjoyed basketball, dodge ball, five-legged races, tug-of-war, and other sports games

Student clubs

The University offers a wide range of popular clubs focused on culture, music, and sports. The Chuo University Student Club Association plays a role in guiding and supporting these activities. Currently, 184 accredited and 27 unaccredited clubs are registered with the Association.
