Perm State University

History

Perm State University was founded on 1st October, 1916. Perm State University has been acting as a State Higher Educational Institution according to the legislation of Russia since 1917. Today, nearly one hundred years later, the University has the status of a National Research University and is one of the leading universities in Russia.

Education

At present at PSU there are 48 programmes for training UG, 26 programmes for training Master students (PG).

Every year PSU opens new and called-for programmes. 8 programmes are considered to be included in the top five in the country - Philosophy, Nanotechnology and Microsystems` Engineering, Information Security, Geography, Geology, History, and Social Work.

Research

The Natural Sciences Institute was founded in 1921 to carry out scientific investigations at Perm University. Now the Institute plays the leading role in the whole research work of the University. There are three major scientific departments in the Institute the Chemical Department, the Radio-ecological Department and the Department of the Environmental protection.

Career

Annually our students and professors get the opportunity to undertake training and internships in top foreign universities and research centres, where they improve their professional skills, share their experiences, and broaden their familiarity with scientific trends.

Housing services

Students reside on PSU campus or in a 15-minuts walk way. They have the opportunity to share a residence hall room with someone from their own town or from another country. University has 7 student hostels. In the dorms they have kitchens, laundry rooms, rooms for study for training sessions, recreation rooms, gym. All the rooms are provided with the access to the Internet (including Wi-Fi). PSU does its best to create comfortable conditions of life for the international students. As a rule, they, live in residential unit comprising 4 rooms, a shower and a toilet. Small kitchen is located on each floor. 2 or 3 students can reside in a room.

Library services

The University library is one of the largest in Perm region - 1.5 million units of educational, scientific, artistic and literary periodicals and books.

ICT services

Throughout the University campus a modern security system operates, and there are points with free wireless Internet access.

Campus life

The study environment is comfortable and pleasant. All the academic buildings are situated in the spacious and green university campus, which also contains gyms and libraries. Student residence halls are found both on campus and nearby. These are conditions that generations of students have found conducive to productive work and a happy social life!

Sports facilities

Every student has the opportunity to take part in any sport he or she wishes. If outdoor activities are not your thing, there is always out sports hall in the grounds of the university itself. Play basketball, volleyball, and badminton, or enjoy aerobics, athletics, or martial arts training. All activities are led by professionals who bring out the maximum potential of our students! Competitions take place year-round in the university. Faculties fiercely contend with each other, to achieve the status of top dog, whether that be in basketball, football, darts, and even chess. The good spirit of competition is never lost. Winners receive prizes and even scholarships!

Student clubs

The University provides space for discussion clubs, student academic communities, theatres - including a Francophone one - and many other creative projects in the lively Student Cultural Centre. Students keep abreast of the latest developments through the University’s numerous media outlets: “Radio PSU”, the “Permsky Universitet” newspaper, the student television studio “Univer TV”, and more than 10 different faculty newspapers.

According to Russian legislation educational programmes of higher professional education are formed by the University on the basis of the Federal State Educational Standards. Educational programmes subject to accreditation by the state body – the Federal Service for Supervision and Control of Education.
