History

The turn of the 21st century was the time for one of the most important announcements in the history of Medical Higher Education in Lodz. With the authority of the Parliament of Poland, the 27th July 2002 saw the merging of the civilian Medical Academy of Lodz and the Military Medical Academy to create the Medical University of Lodz.

Education

Three teaching hospitals owned by the University with over 1600 beds make a grand base for clinical education as well as for scientific programs. The additional 34 wards and departments (ca 1 200 beds) of municipal hospitals are used for teaching purposes.

The University Teaching Hospitals and University- affiliated departments constitute a basic source for highly specialized diagnostic and treatment services provided by more than 1 250 medical professionals including 750 specialist with professors and associate professors who deal with the health need of the Lodz region and promote health-related programs.

Research

MUL has the capacity to support innovation with its Knowledge and Innovation Hub – dedicated spaces to support students, researchers and innovators to launch their business ideas.

In 2013 MUL set off to transform its operational model in education, research and clinical treatment with applying IBM BPM technology across over 50 departments, 4 hospitals and partnering organisations. Moving ahead with disruptive edge of IBM technology, University is now reshaping its focus from operational level into applying IBM technologies to improve and optimize over 300 life-saving processes in domain of R&D, public health and clinical treatment.

Services

Housing services

The University provides housing on campus in two dormitories/residence halls. Here you will feel at home with helpful English-speaking staff and your fellow students who will help you in the orientation process as well as with your Polish. The dorms represent various levels of housing conditions which is reflected in the rent. 

In Lodz there is a big and attractive offer of apartments and flats to rent. This form of accommodation is very popular among our international students. Those who prefer to live outside the campus will be provided with a list of private flat renting agencies and list of private dormitories.

Library services

The University offers an Information and Library Center.

Medical services

The health insurance package should be valid in the territory of the Republic of Poland. As part of this package, you should be provided with contact with general practitioner in Poland (basic medical care) who, in the event of disturbing flu-like symptoms, will show you directions for further treatment and, if necessary, refer you to a COVID-19 test. Please take this obligation very seriously.
