Pratt Institute

History

Pratt Institute was founded in 1887 by American industrialist Charles Pratt. An advocate of education and the transformational impact it can have on people’s lives, Pratt set out to provide an affordable college education that was accessible to working men and women. When the college opened in 1887, it was among the first in the country to welcome students regardless of class, color, or gender.

Education

Pratt seeks to instill in all graduates aesthetic judgment, professional knowledge, collaborative skills, and technical expertise. With a firm grounding in the liberal arts and sciences, a Pratt education blends theory with creative application in preparing graduates to become leaders in their professions. Pratt enrolls a diverse group of highly talented and dedicated students, challenging them to achieve their full potential.

Career

As the academic year wraps up and students head home to summer jobs or internships, some to volunteer, at the Center for Career and Professional Development we are taking stock of what we’ve done to support students and soon-to-be alumni in achieving their professional aspirations. In the past few years we’ve launched many new programs aimed at engaging students throughout their years of study at Pratt. We want to share some of the highlights of the past year, and perhaps your recent graduate can take advantage of some of these opportunities in the future.

Campus life

As one of the world’s multicultural epicenters for arts, culture, design, and business, New York City provides Pratt students with an exceptional learning environment that extends beyond the Pratt campuses in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Pratt has a 25-acre campus in Brooklyn, a creative hub in the midst of a renaissance, and another in Manhattan. The Institute’s campus in the historic Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn is adjacent to the emerging Brooklyn Tech Triangle, a nexus for innovation and entrepreneurship.
