History

The concept was first visualized by Dr. Jackson, when, in the 1908, he advocated the establishment of a Science Institute at Baroda on an improved and independent basis. It was a consistent policy of the Government of Baroda to subject its educational system to periodical inquiries of an exploratory nature by educational experts, as a result of which the first Commission was appointed in 1909. 

Education

Baroda is synonymous with education. The patronage of education started with Maharaja Sayajirao and the city has built further on the academic infrastructure established by him.

The present educational foundation rests on over 20 public schools and over 100 private schools. Towering benevolently over all is the Maharaja Sayajirao University, the jewel in the Baroda crown, so to speak. MSU is the only university in Gujarat with English as the medium of instruction. It has 13 faculties and 17 residential hostels, 4 of them for women students. The university caters to over 35,000 students.

Research

The Office of  Research & consultancy Cell (ORCC) since its inception in 2012 is progressing very well and providing specialized administrative and managerial support for the operation of in-house & sponsored research, consultancy and other R&D related activities of the M. S. University of Baroda. The Office of Research and Consultancy Cell (RCC) is facilitating interaction with external agencies, both national and international. It is committed to promote and manage University-Industry interactions and all externally funded research and development projects as well as patents & Copy Rights. The Office is acting as a liaison between the University and Industrial funding agency to undertake sponsored projects.

Student services

  • Guiding and Helping visitor for Online Registration
  • Print outs of the Registration Form and Payment receipt

Housing services

Hostel Application does not guarantee admission to the university hostels. Students will be admitted as per merit and quota alloted to the respective faculty.

Library services

Shrimati Hansa Mehta Library, the University Library of M S University of Baroda was established on May1, 1950. At the time of establishment of the M. S. University of Baroda, a collection of 25,000 books belonging to the two State Libraries ( was handed over to the University Library. 

ICT services

The MSU campus-LAN and Internet access resources are meant for official use arising from the academic/research activities and administrative responsibilities of the faculty, staff and students of the University. Use of network resources for personal purposes is discouraged.

Medical services

The University Health Centre (UHC) was established in the campus of the M. S. University of Baroda in the year 1964 with financial assistance from the University Grants Commission. It is located opposite the University Pavilion next to the Hansa Mehta Girls’ Hostel.

Campus life

India's internationally renowned The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (1949) has blossomed from the Baroda College (1881) which is one of the oldest centres of learning in western India. MSU is the only state University with a residential, unitary character having English as sole medium of instruction with more than 1200 well-qualified faculty members and 1500 administrative staff to facilitate the learning of more than 35000 students having cosmopolitan life on campus.

Sports facilities

Physical Education and Sports are an integral part of General Education. This department with one Director and seven Assistant Director (5 Men & 2 Women) and a Hockey Coach arose general consciousness of health among students and select and train capable to represent the University at state, national and international sports.

The University is recognized by Government of India under the Indian Universities Act, 1958 and is accredited by National Academic Accreditation Council.
