Saint Martin's University

History

Saint Martin's opened its doors Sept. 11, 1895, for a single student, Angus McDonald, who reportedly traveled by canoe from Shelton, some 25 miles away. He was joined by several more students in the following weeks, but until their arrival, received a full course of high school-level classes as the school’s lone enrollee.

Education

  • 29 academic majors
  • 60 programs
  • 11 graduate programs

Research

Dedication to research and scholarly activity permeates the air at Saint Martin's. Our faculty write books, publish and travel the world as Fulbright Scholars. They work side-by-side with students on real-world projects, cultivating curiosity and care. Our students develop academic investigations of their own, including a senior capstone project under the mentorship of their faculty advisor. If accepted, they present at our annual Scholars Day conference. Some have gone on to be published. Even our staff present at professional conferences and complete advanced degrees. Our commitment to lifelong learning provides fertile ground for scholastic achievement and an enduring call to inquiry.

Career

The Career Center is wholeheartedly committed to supporting our diverse student population in defining their career goals and objectives as they relate to future employment and graduate school opportunities. As an office, we will:

  • Continue to sponsor professional development opportunities for our students.
  • Encourage enrollment in the Saints Promise program to promote upward social mobility of our students and graduates.
  • Work with our employers to educate and provide resources on anti-racist, anti-discriminatory hiring practices, as well as how to address implicit bias in their workplaces.
