History
The University was founded in 1936 as China’s first independent four-year National College of Pharmacy and the first public institution for higher pharmaceutical education in China. Over the 80 years, it has been making important contributions to promote the development of national healthcare, which well represents its motto “Dedicated to academic excellence and devoted to public health.”
Education
There are a total of 16 schools and departments, covering 7 disciplines including medicine, science and engineering. There are 31 undergraduate majors, 3 associate (higher vocational) majors, and 3 doctoral research areas (pharmacy, Chinese pharmacy, biology), including 27 doctoral programs and 2 post-doctoral research centers. Currently, CPU hosts more than 16,781 full-time students, including 11,593 bachelor’s or associate degree candidates, 4,682 postgraduates, 505 international students. It has 1,684 faculty and staff including 1,037 full-time teachers.
Research
With an international view and equipped with the advantages of complete disciplines in pharmacy/traditional Chinese pharmacy, the university is developing interdisciplinary research and increasing its innovative power. The University has founded a national key lab for natural active ingredients and drug efficacy, 19 national/ministry/province-level key labs, engineering technical centers and innovative platforms for pre-clinical research and development of innovative drugs. The Drug Research Institute promotes the overall advancement of the university's research and development of new drugs.

They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Housing services
All rooms are carpet-free for pest control purposes. The climate here is humid and suitable for pests to make themselves at home in a wool-rich carpet!
First-year Guarantee: Living on-campus is compulsory for all upcoming first-year students.
Student who don't meet the graduation requirement in the end of program are not considered for on-campus housing placement.
ICT services
The WIFI signal covers classroom buildings, the library, canteens, and laboratories. Student dormitories aren't covered, and the broadbank service can be opened at China Telecom.
Campus life
The University is composed of two campuses, namely the Xuanwumen Campus and the Jiangning Campus, which cover a total area of about 2100 mu (140 hectares).
