History
Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in India, the third oldest in south India and the first to be established in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad.
Education
The University Colleges, also known as Campus Colleges are located within the University Campus. These are about eight such colleges with 53 departments.
Research
Osmania University is one of the premier institutes in the country where research activity is given due recognition and encouragement. To strengthen the research activity in the university, in the year 2009, UGC has granted financial support under XI plan. With the help of this grant, the University established a Central Facilities for Research and Development in the campus to house facilities like Central Instrumentation Lab, Information Technology and Communication Lab etc.
Career
The Planning Commission, Delhi and University Grants Commission, Delhi initiated the concept of establishing a University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau in the early sixties. The Government of Telangana and Osmania University initiated to adopt this concept and thus established the Osmania University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau in 1962.

Library services
The Library building is situated on the highest altitude of the University campus covering a floor area of 62,000 sq.ft. The Library holds nearly 500,000 books and over 6000 manuscripts including rare palm leave manuscripts. It subscribes to about 400 periodicals and learned journals in various subjects.
Sports facilities
The Department of Physical Education existed since the inception of Arts College. Earlier, Games and Sports activities were centralized for all the campus colleges. Since 1975, Arts College has been organizing Indoor Games such as Table Tennis, Carroms, Chess, and Badminton, within the College Premises. For Outdoor games, the students use the facilities of the main Department of Physical Education, Osmania University.
Osmania University is re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (an Autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission) as 'A+' Grade University.
