History

IISERs were created through a proclamation of Ministry of Education, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in science and related areas. The first two IISERs (Pune and Kolkata) were established in 2006. This was followed by an Institute at Mohali (2007), Bhopal & Trivandrum (2008), Tirupati (2015), and Berhampur (2016).

Education

IISER Bhopal aims to provide quality science education to UG and PG students. The prime focus of the Institute is to integrate science education with research. Also, the Institute is committed to impart high ethical values and create social and environment awareness.

Research

The Institute published about 2002 research papers in the international journals of high repute as on January 19, 2021. About 13 patents have also been registered for grant of patents and a total of 26 National and International MoUs have been entered in for forging alliances with academic and research Institutes of high repute across the globe.

Career

A total of 10 BS, 764 BS-MS, 65 MS, 174 Ph.D. students have graduated with a total alumni base of 1013, having secured placement of about 79% overall Of the graduates, including securing research and academic fellowships from various national and international level Institutes of high repute, so far.

Student services

Our mission is to address the mental health needs of the IISERB community. While most of our work involves one-to-one or group counseling with students, we are also involved in consultation, outreach, training, and other activities to strengthen IISER Bhopal as an institution dedicated towards learningi, personal, and community development. Through counseling and other activities of the department, we strive to assist students in identifying, understanding, and solving problems.

Housing services

IISER Bhopal is a residential institute and requires that all the students registered for a degree programme in the institute reside on campus. The students are also provided a mess and other necessary facilities. At present, the Institute has 6 hostels; Girls Hostel: Hostel-2 & Hostel-3, Boys Hostel: Hostel-1, Hostel-5, Hostel-6 & Hostel-7, Mess Facility: Dining Hall-1, Dining Hall-2, Dining Hall-3 & Dining Hall-4.

Library services

IISER Bhopal a very special place in the IISER Campus with its rich collection of books and journals in the field of Basic Sciences and related areas. Currently houses around 10,000 books, including textbooks for the curriculum in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

ICT services

Innovation and Incubation Centre for Entrepreneurship (IICE) is an umbrella organization at IISER Bhopal for fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing technology start-ups. It administers a technology business incubator which provides 'Start to scale' support by providing office space.

Medical services

  • Health Center is equipped with Automated external defibrillator for meeting emergency situation.
  • Emergency services remains available 24 Hours along with Routine OPD services.
  • Our Ambulance remains ready 24Hours to transport the patient at higher medical centers.
  • At the Health center round the clock availability of medical officers & Nurses.

Sports facilities

The Office of Students' Affairs takes pleasure in introducing a very new and innovative sports programme - The Integrated Sports Training Programme (ISTP). This programme is primarily aimed at:

  • Motivating students towards pursuing sports as an extra-curricular activity.
  • Identifying sports talent among students.
  • Nurturing talented students by providing the necessary training for participation in inter-collegiate and other sports events, like the annual Inter-IISER Sports Meet (IISM).
